Create Drama with an Accent Wall

We’ve discussed the use of accents in home decor, such as how to use the color coral to make a statement in a room.  To further create drama and a focal point in a room, an accent wall is an excellent choice.  If done correctly, an accent wall can act as a valuable design element in your home decor.

While many people often think of an accent wall as a brightly-colored wall that may be too funky or “out there” for their taste, that does not have to always be the case.  Sometimes using a dark neutral for an accent wall is the best way to complement a room’s decor. Take, for example, this accent wall in a bedroom we designed, which adds a depth to the space it would otherwise lack.

Dwelement outlines several scenarios where an accent wall will work well with a home’s decor:

  • To emphasize and draw attention to a room’s architectural details, such as a fireplace wall, bookshelves, or a unique nook.
  • To create depth and interest in a room or hallway.
  • To further give a room a clean and modern feel as this style works well with a variety of colors are used.
  • To give the illusion of a wider and taller space.

Whether it’s a soothing, elegant bedroom you’re after, or a spirited, eclectic great room, we can help you bring your decor aspirations to life with home design services from our Boston interior design firm.
